LTC Bonnie S. Kovatch

Lieutenant Colonel Bonnie S. Kovatch currently serves as the Commander, AF North Battalion, USANATO Brigade at SHAPE, Belgium. She enlisted in the New York Army National Guard in 1998 and earned a Regular Army commission in the Adjutant General Corps from Siena College’s Reserve Officer Training Program as a Distinguished Military Graduate in 2003.

Lieutenant Colonel Kovatch has served as a Human Resources Officer at multiple echelons of command; in garrison, and deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Her assignments include Enlisted Strength Manager, 7th Infantry Division and Fort Carson, CO; Deputy Regimental S-1, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Tal Afar, Iraq; Executive Officer, HHC, 7th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, CO; Battalion S-1, 743rd Military Intelligence Battalion, Buckley Air Force Base, Aurora, CO, Squadron S-1, 96th Aviation Support Battalion and 2-17th Cavalry Squadron, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, Kandahar, Afghanistan; Assistant Professor, Department of Social Sciences, United States Military Academy at West Point; Group S-1, 650th Military Intelligence Group / J-1, Allied Command Counterintelligence, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Belgium and Professor of Military Science at Central Washington University’s Wildcat Battalion.

Her military education includes the Adjutant General Corps Officer Basic Course and Captains’ Career Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders’ Course, Master Educator’s Course, Brigade S-1 Operations Course, Cadre and Faculty Development Course, University Senior Leader’s Course, and Command and General Staff College. Her civilian education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Siena College and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School, Tufts University. Lieutenant Colonel Kovatch’s military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (3 oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (3 oak leaf clusters), Global War of Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the NATO Medal. Her badges include the Parachutist Badge, German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold), and the Combat Service Identification Badge (3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and 101st Airborne Division).

Lieutenant Colonel Kovatch is married and has two children.
