The primary operational task of NFIU Hungary is to help facilitate the fast and effective receiving, staging, onward movement, and deployment of Allied forces, especially the NATO VJTF. The NFIU is involved in collective defense planning, and plays an important role in the preparation and execution of NATO forces’ exercises that are scheduled to be conducted in Hungary. NATO force integration units are part of the NATO Force Structure under the primary responsibility of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe. NFIU Latvia is one of eight NFIUs together with those in Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia.
Similarly to the other such organizations, the Hungarian NFIU also performs its duties with a mixed composition of Hungarian and international personnel; a total of 42 people. The presence of soldiers from other NATO countries in Székesfehérvár demonstrates NATO's multinational nature and the member states’ commitment to collective defense.
