Command Sergeant Major Valenzuela is a native of Schulenburg, Texas. He enlisted in the Army in 1996 as a 75H (Personnel Specialist). He completed Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and completed the Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. During his career, CSM Valenzuela’s previous assignments include: The Army Human Resources functions of Enlisted Promotions, Records Management, and Division Readiness. He has been an NCOIC, Senior Drill Sergeant, Senior Human Resource Sergeant, NCO Academy Senior Leader Course First Sergeant, 1st Calvary Division G1 Sergeant Major, and the HHBN Command Sergeant Major of 1st Calvary Division (1CD). He served one tour in Bosnia, two tours in support of Operation IRAQI Freedom and one tour in supporting Operation NEW DAWN. He also served as the 1CD/USFOR-A J1 SGM during 1CD’s deployment to Operational Freedom Sentinel from 2016- 2017. He is now serving as the Command Sergeant Major of the US Army NATO Brigade in Sembach, Germany.
CSM Valenzuela’s military and civilian education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System, Postal Supervisor Course, Drill Sergeant Course, and Master Resilience Course. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 64). CSM Valenzuela holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Columbia Southern University. CSM Valenzuela’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (6th Award), Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), Army Achievement Medal (8th Award), Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal,, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (5th Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award), Combat Action Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, Drivers Badge (Mech).
CSM Valenzuela is married and has two children.
