Command Sergeant Major James Edward Morris Jr. was born in Jackson, Mississippi and entered the Army on 19 August 1997. He attended Basic Combat
Training and Religious Affairs Specialist (formally known as Chaplain Assistant) Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

CSM Morris’s assignments as a Religious Affairs Specialist include 3-10th Infantry Battalion, 3rd Basic Combat Training Brigade and 43rd Adjutant General Battalion (Reception), Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; 212th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, Miesau, Germany; 130th Engineer Brigade, Hanau, Germany; 30th Medical Brigade and Headquarters United States Army Europe, Heidelberg, Germany; 5th Signal Command, Mannheim and Wiesbaden, Germany; Operations Group, National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California; 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological Nuclear, High Yield Explosive Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Edgewood, Maryland; 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Bragg, North Carolina; 8th United States Army Camp Humphries, Republic of Korea; The Strategy, Prepotency, Resources Directorate for Headquarters Department of the Army Office of the Chief of Chaplains, Pentagon, Washington, District of Columbia; 589 Brigade Support Battalion, 41st Field Artillery Brigade. CSM Morris served three tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

CSM Morris is a graduate of the Sergeants Major Course, Class 68, Advance Noncommissioned Officer Course, Master Resilience Trainer Course, Observer Controller Academy, Emergency Medical Ministry Course, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Train the Trainer Course, and Red Team Leader Course. CSM Morris completed his
Master of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from Excelsior College, Albany, New York. His awards and decorations include the Legion Merit, Bronze Star Medal (6), Army Commendation Medal (Valor), Army Commendation Medal (3), Army Achievement Medal (7), Army Good Conduct Medal (7), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (2), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service (4), NATO Medal, Driver’s Badge, and Marksmanship Qualification Rifle Badge.
