Captain Maria Sheila Godwin enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in 2010 as an Automated Logistics Specialist. She was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Adjutant General’s Corps in 2014 through the Direct Commission Program.Prior to coming on active duty, she worked as a Defense Contractor at US Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and as a Department of the Army Civilian at the 81st Regional Support Command in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and NAF at Mayport Naval Station Florida, and West Point, New York.
Captain Godwin’s prior military assignments include Administrative Officer and Emergency Management Specialist for US Army Corps of Engineers South Atlantic Division, Wilmington, North Carolina; Chief of Joint Visitors Bureau, Joint Intelligence Brigade, Joint Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Battalion S1 OIC and Assistant Operations Officer Allied Forces North Battalion, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, SHAPE Belgium; and as Secretary of the General Staff for the Headquarters US Army NATO Brigade.
Captain Godwin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and Master’s degree in Human Resources Management. Captain Godwin’s military education includes Adjutants General Officers’ Basic Course and the Captain Career Course, and Safety Officer Course. Her military awards includes the Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medals (1 OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon.
