First Sergeant Suelyn Rochelle Hemmings was born in San Fernando, Trinidad in September 1983. She migrated to United States and spent most of her youth in Nashville, Tennessee. She joined the Army in 2001. She attended basic training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, SC where she graduated as a Human Resources Specialist (42A).
First Sergeant Hemmings’ prior military assignments include, 2-28th Infantry Regiment from January 2002 to October 2006, 1st Brigade, 82nd ABN DIV, Fort Bragg from November 2006 to November 2012. A Co, 1st Battalion, 61st Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson from July 2013 to August 2015, HHC, 307th , 3rd Brigade, 82nd from August 2015 through August 2016, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg for a 13-month deployment to Union III, Iraq from August 2016 to September 2017 and 1st Group Special Forces, JBLM from November 2017 to July 2019. Her most recent assignment was, Battalion Senior Human Resources Manager.
1SG Hemmings holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Her military education include, Drill Sergeant School, Master Fitness Trainer, Senior Leader Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Basic Leaders Course and Combatives Level one. Her military awards include the Meritorious Service Medals (1 OLC), Joint Army Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medals (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (7 OLC), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal (4 clasp), Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medals (3 CS), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (2 device), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbons (2 Numeral), Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge and Drill Sergeant Badge.
